Samsung Vina and Viglacera to cooperate to build housing for workers in Yen Phong Industrial Zone

On August 12, 2016 Viglacera Corporation had a meeting with Samsung Vietnam to discuss a project of building housing for workers in Yen Phong Industrial Zone, Bac Ninh province.

According to the development plan of industrial parks in Vietnam to 2015 and orientation to 2020 which was approved by the Prime Minister in Decision No. 1107 / QD-TTg, by the year of 2020 the total number of workers in the IZ will reach about 7.2 million people, of which there will be about 4.2 million people being in need of housing, which means 33.6 million m2 of housing need to be built.

Most recently, on December 7, 2016 at the National Online Conference on social housing and housing for workers, the Minister of Construction Pham Hong Ha said construction investment in social housing for the poor and low-income people in urban areas and workers in industrial park has not met the demand yet, and has not reached the targets set in the national housing development strategy. As of November 2016 the country completed construction of 179 social housing projects in urban areas and industrial zones (approximately 71,150 apartments); so, compared to the target of number of social housing in urban areas and industrial zones to 2020 set out in the national housing development strategy (about 250,000 apartments), only 28% of the target has been completed .

At the meeting, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc asked People's Committees of provinces and cities under central government focusing on implementation of social housing development policies, especially housing for workers. According to the Prime Minister, this was the central duty of the local leaders because the act of the local leaders would determine the success of the social housing development program in general and housing for workers in particular. The Prime Minister also encouraged enterprises to actively join in the program of development of social housing and housing for workers.

Considering that the workers’ demand for housing in the industrial zones is still great, and Samsung Vietnam is the major and most important partner of Viglacera whose factories producing high-tech electronics located in Yen Phong Industrial Zone with an area of 110 hectares, and the number of Samsung’s worker here are more than 60,000 people, which is expected to continue to increase in 2017, Vietnam and Viglacera Samsung has decided to discuss a plan to build housing for workers in the expansion phase of the Yen Phong industrial zone in Bac Ninh province.

Yen Phong Industrial Zone is one of the leading Industrial Zones in Bac Ninh province, and is considered a morden and comprehensive IZ where the factories with high-technology and environment-friendly technology loacated in.

Yen Phong Industrial Zone is currently being evaluated as a model industrial zone and it attracts the country's largest investment worth nearly $ 8 billion. Its exports value in 2015 was nearly $ 30 billion mainly coming from Samsung Vina’s export of electronic devices. Yen Phong Industrial Zone located in Bac Ninh province with total area of 658.71 ha and commenced construction in 2005 is a good place that many big brands such as Samsung, Orion, Flexcom, Dongsin, Mobase, Dawo Vina, Hansol choose to invest in.
