Proskills UK has just completed a scoping and training visit with colleagues from the Viglacera Corporation in Vietnam which has resulted in a further significant agreement for commercial vocational skills activity.

The busy two week schedule include a broad scoping visit across six site locations across northern Vietnam; meetings with the management teams and an evaluation of their current skills and training systems and process, comparing it to that of the UK.

On Saturday 7th June 2014, the initial results of the scoping visit were presented to the Viglacera Corporation Group management team, as well as the individual site management teams. Watching with keen interest were Vietnamese Government departments MOLISA, MOET, GDVT, National Institute for Vocational Training (NIVE) and British Council – all of whom have supported the scoping visit and ongoing partnership.

As a direct result of the scoping visit a long term contract of activity has now been agreed and was signed before our team left Vietnam. Initially this agreement will see the development of national occupational skills standards and appropriate curriculum. Additionally staff will be re-trained as trainers and assessors with a new quality system being implemented. The first tranche of activity has already been set out and agreed for the next 18 months. This is a strong indication of the significant changes Viglacera and Vietnam are making in developing the skills of their workforce.

Chris Brown, Director of British Council, Vietnam commended the partnership and said:

“The British Council’s role is to provide initial support for innovative partnerships through its Skills For Employability programme. It is great to be present as the first of such industry led partnerships launches in Vietnam. I hope that the success of this work will provide a template for other sectors skills approaches to follow suit.”

Nguyen Anh Tuan, General Director of the Viglacera Corporation said:

The quality of our human resource is an important factor in determining the development of our company. In the last 5 years past, a difficult and serious economic serious crisis highlighted this more than ever. Our continued growth through this difficult time proves that our strategic human resource development is working well and demonstrates why we must continue to invest in training highly competence staff at all levels of the business. Working with Proskills UK we will develop our staff even further and raise our game to comparable international standards.

Jonathan Ledger, Managing Director Proskills UK Group said:

This additional long term skills partnership demonstrates that by developing staff in the right way, a company can continue to grow and keep pace in a global economy. We re-affirm our commitment to working with Viglacera, the Vietnamese Government and all partners such as British Council to raise skills standards. It is very exciting to think that what we do over the next 18 months will also provide the foundation template for other industries to follow.
