SCG and investment cooperation opportunities in Viglacera

SCG is the number 1 Thai’s group in building materials, and also a manufacturer of ceramic tiles with largest scale and capacity over the world. With a strategy to expand its market in the region, SCG is looking for opportunities to cooperate with Viglacera Corporation - the leading enterprise of building materials in Vietnam. With the introduction from former Deputy Minister of Construction, Chairman of the Vietnam Real Estate Association Nguyen Tran Nam, on 12.11.2015, SCG and Viglacera had the first working session at Viglacera Corporation - JSC to learn more about potentials and collaboration opportunities of both parties.

The delegation of SCG, led by Mr. Wachirachai Koonamwattana - Director of Strategy Management, had a visit to the historical exhibition hall of Viglacera Corporation, and also worked with Viglacera’s BOD.

SCG appreciated history, strategy development as well as the growth of Viglacera Corporation. Mr. Wachirachai Koonamwattana - Director of Strategy Management of SCG said: SCG has invested in many countries in the region, and is planning to invest in Vietnamese market. In particular, SCG is interested in partnership opportunities with Viglacera Corporation because of similarities between the two groups. SCG will study carefully about potentials of Viglacera and pay direct visits to building materials factories, real estate projects of Viglacera in the future.

After discussion between the two sides, General Director of Viglacera Corporation - JSC Nguyen Anh Tuan wished to cooperate with the SCG and said: There are many similarities between SCG and Viglacera. We are both local enterprises which have diverse products and are trying to replace imported goods with domestic ones.

Besides, General Director Nguyen Anh Tuan also confirmed that, within more than 1 year from privatization in July 2014, Viglacera has focused on qualitative change such as restructuring, management strategy change, product strategy... and have achieved very good results against the objectives set out in the AGM.

In the coming time, SCG and Viglacera will promote research, study about partners to begin the process of cooperation in the shortest time. Right now, SCG pays special interest to IPO plan and financial situation of Viglacera corporation.

SCG, established in 1913, is a multidisciplinary working group, focusing on three main areas which are cement - building materials, petrochemical and packaging, with more than 200 subsidiaries and 50,000 employees. By 30.06.2015, the total assets of SCG reached $14.83 billion, of which total assets of SCG in Southeast Asia (excluding Thailand) reached $2.84 billion, accounting for 19 % of total consolidated assets of SCG. Group’s revenue in 2014 was about $15 billion in which the field of cement and building materials accounted for 45% of total revenue. Annually, SCG invests about 1%, i.e $150 million, for research and development.

SCG started to expand operations into Vietnam since 1992. Currently SCG has 22 companies which are operating in Vietnam with more than 6,500 employees.
